Day Thirty One: Our last country...

We said goodbye to Italy and Markus in the afternoon and made our way to the airport. We flew from Rome to Athens, and then Athens to Fira, Santornini.

When we got to Fira, I had thought that we could take the local bus to the hotel, I had picked this hotel for several amazing reasons, which I will explain later, but one was its proximity to the bus stop. Unfortunately, the bus stopped running before we got there. Thankfully there were multiple private buses taking people to their hotels, and we agreed on a price with one of the drivers and he took us to our hotel. I'm not sure why, but when we got to our hotel we forgot to get our suitcase out of the bus. I still can't believe we did that, I mean how do you forget to get your suitcase that you've been dragging around Europe for 30 days. We realized we had forgotten it as we were checking in. The people at the hotel told us they would find the bus we were on, even though we had no idea who drove us since it was a private driver. Thankfully the driver saw our bag and brought it back after he finished his drop offs.

Other than our mess up with our luggage we were so excited to be on the island of Santorini. Our plane landed around 9pm and it was already dark, so we couldn't fully see how amazing everything was, but it seemed pretty amazing. Our hotel was awesome, we stayed at the Atlantis Hotel. This was one of the best splurges of the whole trip. The hotel was pretty expensive but it was one of the only hotels that did not require going down a lot of stairs to get to. I will explain more about the islands terrain tomorrow. Not only was it easier access but each room had its own private balcony and overlooked the most amazing views of the Aegean Sea, but we had no idea how amazing it would be till the morning.

After we got settled Jen ran out to the main street right outside our hotel to get some dinner with some recommendation from the front desk. My knee was content with staying put and enjoying the breeze on the balcony. She came back with the best thing I have ever eaten. Ok its pretty much Greek fast food, but it was amazing. It's called Souvlaki. Its a pita with chicken, onions, tomatoes, tzatziki sauce and french fries in it. It is amazing.

We ate dinner on our balcony and listened to the music from the man playing on the street below. Sounds of people walking and having a good time on the main street filled the air, we couldn't believe where we were, and in the morning it would be even more unbelievable.
