Day Twenty Seven: Florence here we come...

Today we said goodbye to our home for the last four nights and headed to Florence. Corte di Valle was an awesome place to stay, very relaxing, the family that owns it was very nice and welcoming. I highly recommend this place if you are touring the tuscan region.

Our first destination was dropping our rental car off at the airport, which thanks to Jen's excellent driving skills we finally made it. It can be tricky finding where to drop off a rental, especially when the signs are in Italian, but we figured it out. Then we took the shuttle from the airport to the main train station. Our apartment (Residence Martin) was close by the train station, but it took us a few min to figure out where it was. When we arrived our host Veronica met us and showed us our room, then she sat down with us and gave us tons of advice on where to go, her favorite restaurants and places to get the best gelato. She was so nice and friendly, it was probably my favorite place we stayed using Airbnb. They were also very accommodating when I emailed them to see if we could add a person to our reservation. Markus had decided to join us after I had booked our room, but there was no problem. He even got his own room attached to ours.

After we got settled Markus and Jen ran down the street to the grocery store and picked up some food to make dinner. The place we were staying had a shared kitchen which meant we could save some money and make our own dinner instead of going out. Plus who doesn't want a chance to cook in Italy. Markus and Jen made chicken with peppers and onions in a white wine sauce, that was amazingly delicious. We had dinner on the small terrace off the kitchen, and played phase 10.

Our room was right on the street where the outdoor market at San Lorenzo is held every day. Each night the vendors take down everything and clean the streets, which means that early early early in the morning the vendors start setting up. Veronica (our host) actually provided ear plugs in our room because it can get kind of noise, but I still loved our place. Just out our front door was the street market and down the street was the San Lorenzo indoor market which we visited tomorrow. Stay tuned!
