Day Fourteen: Over the border...

Today we said goodbye to Peter and Scotland and headed for England. Tonight we were staying with another of Jen's friends from YWAM, Tim, in Leeds, England. On our way there we stopped at Buttermere a small village that is famous for its icecream. Buttermere is in the Lake District of England, a gorgeous drive over windy narrow roads with beautiful views.

Peter took Jen to the airport in the morning to pick up our car rental. When she got back to Peter's apartment, she came in the door and said, "look out the window," when I did I saw a bright blueberry parked outside his apartment. Oh my goodness, that would be our car for the next 4 days, it was ridiculous looking, but what are you going to do.

After we finished packing and loading up the blueberry, we got on the road. We had a longer drive today than usual, google map said close to 6 hours, partly because we were taking a detour through the Lake District of England. As we got closer to the border between Scotland and England we were on the look out for a sign that said we had crossed country lines, thankfully we were looking, it was so small that we might have missed it. I guess because Scotland and England are part of the United Kingdom it's not really that big of a deal to cross the border, but it was a big deal for us this was our third country in our trip. Welcome to England!

Lake District

"Cumbria's valleys and fells (as the low mountains are known) are home to idyllic villages, high moorlands and picturesque lakes" (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g186318-Lake_District_Cumbria_England-Vacations.html)

This drive was beautiful, and words wont do it justice so here's some pictures.

Buttermere

For lunch we stopped in the small village of Buttermere. It is a tiny village of only 127 people and one or two places to eat. Syke Farm Tea Room is a great place to stop for lunch, we had the BLT and of course some homemade icecream. In my research before our trip I found reviews that said their icecream was worth the stop, and it was.

To end the day we stopped in Keswick, a small market town in the Lake District, and did a little shopping (post cards and stamps). Then we were on our way to Leeds.

We got to Leeds, England and Tim's house that evening. Tim made us homemade Lasagna and homemade berry crumble. We had dinner and then played Dutch Blitz. I'd never played but Jen and Tim had and were very competitive. Tim's friend came by for a little while and played too. Tim won, to Jen's dismay, but it was a fun night. Wish we could have stayed longer, 5 weeks just wasn't long enough. Tim was a great host, good food, great conversation. Someday we'll have to go back!
