Day Twenty: Italy here we come...

Today was our as Jen put it "taking care of business" day. I was on a mission to find a fascinator (a british hat), so we went to a shopping area close by, and I found one! Then we packed up and boxed up our souvenirs from Scotland and England to send home before we flew to Italy. As I explained in a previous post, it was necessary for us to send stuff home because our bag would have been over the weight limit of 44lbs. Plus it was nice not to have to carry extra stuff around, especially when we were traveling without a car (i.e. planes and trains). We found our way to a post office and mailed our stuff, then went to say farewell to Phillip at the hosptial. He was in school that day, he met us down in the lobby then took us up to the top floor, where his school was, for an amazing view of London. The hospital (Guy's Hospital) is one of the tallest hospitals in the world.

After we said our goodbyes we took the tube to the airport, picked up our stored bags and then found a restaurant and had some dinner, because we were super early for our flight. We actually enjoyed being early and not stressed. Our flight to Venice left at 5:55pm and arrived in Venice at 9pm (a hour ahead of London).

The Venice Airport is actually located on the mainland about 4 miles from the island of Venice, in the town of Tessera. Just be aware of this when planning your travels to Venice. A lot of the hotel on the main land will call themselves Venice and these will be cheeper usually than staying on the island, but I recommend spending the extra to stay on the island, it makes it easier to enjoy more time in Venice if you don't have to worry about getting there in the morning and leaving to go back to your hotel at night. Also Venice after, maybe, 5-6pm is so much different than during the day. Tourist from cruise ships and those staying on the mainland have headed back and the island is less crowed and more enjoyable. Now with all that said, Jen and I, for the first night, did stay on the main land, close to the airport. We got in at 9pm and did not want to have to find our way onto the island at night. So we would head there in the morning and stay tomorrow night on the island.

We picked up the shuttle to our hotel and checked in. We were in Italy!!!!

Venice Resort

Our hotel room was amazing! Big and spacious, comfortable and clean. It would have been perfect if it would have been on the island but it was perfect for that night. They also had a free breakfast in the morning.
