Day Thirty One: Our last country...

Image
We said goodbye to Italy and Markus in the afternoon and made our way to the airport. We flew from Rome to Athens, and then Athens to Fira, Santornini. When we got to Fira, I had thought that we could take the local bus to the hotel, I had picked this hotel for several amazing reasons, which I will explain later, but one was its proximity to the bus stop. Unfortunately, the bus stopped running before we got there. Thankfully there were multiple private buses taking people to their hotels, and we agreed on a price with one of the drivers and he took us to our hotel. I'm not sure why, but when we got to our hotel we forgot to get our suitcase out of the bus. I still can't believe we did that, I mean how do you forget to get your suitcase that you've been dragging around Europe for 30 days. We realized we had forgotten it as we were checking in. The people at the hotel told us they would find the bus we were on, even though we had no idea who drove us since it was a private...

Day Thirty: When in Rome...

Image
Today (2013) we are in touring Rome. Today (2014) I am busy watching lots of kids and have been up since 4:45am so I don't think I'm going to get to posting about Rome. Sorry! For those of you who don't understand what's going on, or think I'm actually in Europe right now, please read the description above, below the tittle. :) Home Catch up on all the days: one year ago      Day One      Day Two      Day Three      Day Four      Day Five      Day Six      Day Seven Day Eight      Day Nine      Day Ten      Day Eleven      Day Twelve      Day Thirteen      Day Fourteen Day Fifteen      Day Sixteen ...

Day Twenty Nine: Florence to Rome

Image
Today we took the train from Florence to Rome. Jen and I had already booked tickets and I actually booked it for coming into the wrong train station in Rome. So when we got to Rome we had to take the subway to the other train station. Thankfully Markus took our big suit case and we took his little one (we also had the wheel chair and our carry-ons). It was hard but we finally got there.  Markus beat us there and checked in with the old Italian lady who's apartment we were staying in. We rented the room from Airbnb again. This time we never met the people who actually rented the room, only the little old lady (we assumed she was the grandma) who I think might have lived in the room we stayed in, but when we were there she had a bed in the kitchen. When I read some of the reviews on Airbnb of this listing other people had the same confusing experience. And the room we stayed in is not like any pictured on the listings. The only picture we took of the room was of Markus' be...

Day Twenty Eight: My favorite Italian city...

Image
Florence was one of my favorite cities that we visited but you'll have to wait to find out why because today in 2014 was busy and all I had time for was to load the pictures. Stay tuned! I'll fill the rest in later. San Lorenzo Mercato Centrale Basilica di San Lorenzo The Duomo Palazzo Vecchio Ponte Vecchio Gusta Pizza After lunch we stared walking back, towards the Galleria dell' Academia to see the Statue of David by Michelangela. Here are some more pictures of Florence we saw on our walk back. We walked by a building covered in American one dollar bills.
