Day Thirty Three: Better than the pictures...

When we woke up this morning the sky was cloudy and it was sprinkling a little. We were a little bummed because we had plans to go to the town of Oia today and had reservations at one of the best restaurants to watch the famous Santorini sunsets. We prayed that it would clear by sunset and by the time we got to Oia the sky was blue and beautiful. We rode the bus from Fira to Oia (pronounced EE-a), about a 30 min ride. Oia is known for the best sunset views on the island and when you see pictures of Greece, espcially Santorini, they are usually pictures of Oia, with its white washed buildings with bright blue rooftops. Oia was also the location that scene in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was filmed.  We spent the day walking around, shopping and taking lots of pictures, before our evening reservations for dinner and watching the sunset. Day Thirty Two: A dream come true...

I woke up early as the sun was poking through the shutters. As I came out of my sleepyness I realized we were in a new place, Santorini, Greece; somewhere I've been wanting to go since I saw the movie Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005). I think, I literally, jumped out of bed, and ran over to the door to the balcony (ok I can't jump or run, so maybe more figuratively not literally) and pulled the shutters open. Jen was still sleeping and not thrilled at the light I was letting in the room or noises I was making. I quickly went out on the balcony and shut the doors behind me. Although it took all the self control in me not to 'jump' on Jen's bed and say, "wake up, wake up!" What we could not see the night before was amazingly beautiful, the view took my breath away.
