Day Twenty Four: Under the Tuscan Sun...

Image
Today we stayed close to "home" and had a relaxing and enjoyable today. We started out by heading into the town of Greve in Chianti, about 5 min from Corte di Valle. It is a cute little town with little shops, restaurants and most things you would need in your travels. Sunday Market Every 4th Sunday (Feb-Nov) in Greve's town square (Piazza Matteotti) there is an organic market. There are local artisans, natural crafts and lots of organic food like cheese, bread, wine, olive oil, jams etc. ( http://www.realtasteoftuscany.com/events/wine/organic-markets-in-tuscany.html ).  Jen and I had a great time looking at all the wonderful crafts and foods, we did a little shopping and had lunch at one of the local restaurants around the Piazza. After we did a little shopping we stopped by the local supper market and got some things for a picnic dinner that night. Day Twenty Three: Tuscany

Today we took the train from Verona to Florence, found our way by bus to the airport and then picked up our car. Once we got the car we headed for the small town of Greve in Chainti. "Greve in Chianti (the old name was Greve; in 1972 was renamed Greve in Chianti after the inclusion of that area in the Chianti wine district) is a town in the province of Florence, Tuscany, Italy. It is located about 31 kilometres (19 mi) south of Florence on A1 highway, and 42 kilometres (26 mi) north of Siena" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greve_in_Chianti ) . We stayed at an Agriturismo. An Agriturismo is "a combination of the words for "agriculture" and "tourism" in Italian - is a style of vacationing in farm house resorts. Small scale farming in Italy became less profitable, these agritourismi allowed the small farmer to augment the income from the farm, and for vacationers to sample the bounty of a rural life in Italy" ( http://goitaly.about.com/od/it...

2014: Have a friend visiting and didn't finish this one but you can look through the pictures....sorry, finish it later! :) _________________________________________________________________________________ Not sure I even want to write about this, because it's such a bad memory, but I think it is good to share to help people who are traveling to Europe, especially with limited mobility who might need a little help. We took the train from Venice to Verona, stopping in Bologna and having to switch trains. Jen had our large suitcase and some carry-ons and I was pushing the folded up wheel chair, cane in hand and probably another carry on around my arm. We got to this point in the train station where the track was above us and we had to climb several stairs. As we were walking to this part a man started following along side me. When we got to the stairs he offered to help Jen with our large bag up the stairs, thinking that he was a nice guy and saw our need, we let him he...
